Adobe Photoshop Layers
Adobe Photoshop is full of quality features that can prove to be useful. Web design, graphic design, presentations, and even multimedia use Adobe Photoshop as a viable resource. One of the best features of Adobe Photoshop is its use of layers. The layers you make each act as a separate image. During the final transformation all of the images are put together to become one image. This article will provide you with some basic steps to make your own set of layers. With these layers you will be able to make a variety of fantastic images with little effort.

You are able to view layers through a section described as the layers palette. Each layer has a name and a picture of it in a box to the left of the name. You can take pictures from other imaging programs like Adobe Fireworks, Paint Shop Pro, or even Adobe Flash. The box has a set of features that you can manipulate. You can lock layers in place by clicking to the left of the mini-picture and the lock icon comes up. When this is active that layer will have editing access. This helps while you are editing and trying to see if your output will look like what you want. You may have already noticed that an “eye” icon is also in that area as well. As you have probably guessed, this is to make layers visible and invisible at your command. Another selection you can make is the linking of layers. This will make two or more layers move or reposition as one image during construction.
When you want to create a new layer you can simply click the new layer button, which is on the bottom of the layers box. It is shown as a standard document paper that is being peeled back to the next page. You will easily identify the icon. If you cannot identify the “create new layer” icon scroll the mouse over the icons at the bottom of the layers box to see what they are. All Adobe products have this feature installed. Another thing you can do with this icon is to make a copy of an already created layer. You can simply drag the layer on top of the icon and it will product a copy of the layer and displays it as active. Once you have added this copy you can make changes to it accordingly and move it in a different position in the stack. This will make it closer or further away from you in perspective to the rest of the layers. To make the process go easier when you have similar layers you might want to change the default name of each layer. This helps if you have to go back after a long time and remember what each layer is or if another person will be working on the image without previous knowledge. You can change the name by double clicking the layer and entering the new name in the dialog box.

I had to learn all the technical stuff on my own through a time consuming trial and error process. However, there are other tutorials available that can help you learn a lot more and easier.
